Palm Sunday 2006

It has been too long since I posted any music, I will soon. In the meantime, how about some lyrics. This morning, while thinking about Easter, I was reminded of this song written by Chris Simpson: GJS "You woke me in the morning to say 'He is risen!' and I replied with a smile 'He is risen indeed.' And somehow you always leave the room, alive with truth and beauty - and carry yourself like you know that it's all just a matter of time. I said, 'But maybe I'm too far down this time.' 'Too proud to hope - to weak to climb.' But you just pierce me through with eyes, that know I'm not (and I can); and carry yourself like you're sure of it: that the stitches dissolve, and the wounds all heal in time. I only hope someday I might resemble you in even the smallest way; I only hope that you can be proud of me." From: Mineral- EndSerenading

Eisley

I saw Eisley in Nashville last Friday, you can read and see a detailed review of my experience on my other blog, Turn Off the Radio. I took video of two of the new songs, 'I Could Be There for You' and 'Invasion'. I then converted them to mp3s, and you can download them below. The quality is poor, but interesting enough to hear the new songs. Here you go: Eisley- I Could Be There For You & Invasion

Jeremy Enigk

If you are like me, you are probably hoping that I am posting new Jeremy Enigk material from his upcoming solo album. Unfortunately, no, I haven't heard any of it. It is coming out "soon", whatever that means. There is a very informative article about this new album from the mastermind behind Sunny Day Real Estate and The Fire Theft found on Billboard. What I am posting is four "rare" songs that people often ask me about. As you probably know, a few years ago Jeremy Enigk composed the soundtrack for the film, United States of Leland. Four songs were posted on the website and were available for free download because the soundtrack was never released. The four Jeremy Enigk songs you can download below are: Ballroom Don't Go Racing Set It On Fire One and One is One Jeremy Enigk- United States of Leland

Lovedrug

This post isn't really about Lovedrug, but their name demands much more attention than the band I am going to post about, Kerith Ravine. Most of you probably don't have a clue who they are. They are barely mentioned in the Lovedrug biography on their website, and you aren't going to find out much by searching for "Kerith Ravine" on Google. The basic information is that Kerith Ravine is the former band of two of Lovedrug's members, Adam Ladd and "singer/songwriter/guitarist/keyboardist" Michael Shepard. While Lovedrug has more of a Coldplay feel (yet much harder), Kerith Ravine sounds like a mixture of Smashing Pumpkins/My Bloody Valentine/Sunny Day Real Estate, three bands I adore. Lovedrug released their debut album in 2004, "Pretend You're Alive." However, there is much work that precedes this album. For one, the Lovedrug "Rock N Roll" EP, and three Kerith Ravine releases: 1999's "Drafting Sessions" EP, 2000's "Streams of Jettison" LP, and 2001's "Lined Up in Pairs We Wait" EP. The only one I can find any mention of online is the LP. I was looking for the cover images, and couldn't find those either, so I took some rough shots myself: Kerith Ravine also had one additional song appear on Deep Elm Records Emo Diaries Volume 5. In the two download links below you will find all of Kerith Ravine's songs plus two Lovedrug tracks from the previously mentioned EP. One song from that EP,"The Narcoleptic", is available on iTunes, but two others "Skeleton Jill" and "Goodbye Blue Fly" cannot be found anywhere. Kerith Ravine- The Streams of Jettison Kerith Ravine- The EPs Let me know if you guys are enjoying this stuff, not sure how many of the things I post are actually being downloaded. Also, if you have any requests for music pass those along. I am not going to post anything that can be bought, but for anything rare or out of print I will do my best.

Stavesacre

Stavesacre finally has a new album coming out, supposedly March 21, entitled 'How to Live With a Curse.' It is their first album since 2002's self-titled, but more importantly, it should be their first quality release in 7 years. Stavesacre released three amazing albums in the late 90's, 'Friction' (1996), 'Absolutes' (1997), and 'Speakeasy' (1999). After their hiatus, they released a sub-par LP in 2002. Many opinions on why it wasn't as good as their older stuff, from change in band members, to production quality, to song-writing; but overall consensus from fans and band members alike is that it was not their best work. Last year they released an EP, 'Bull Takes Fighter', which contained the best four songs they had written in a long time. Recently they have begun posting songs from their new album. These songs are AMAZING. Easily the best stuff they have done since 1999's 'Speakeasy.' The songs 'Grace' and 'Kill My Darlings' are currently streaming on their Myspace page. 'It's Beautiful' was also streaming, but only for a few days. The first two mp3s (160 kbps) I made myself and I think sound pretty good. The third (128 kbps) I never heard online, so someone emailed me an mp3, and it is pretty rough. edit: Album Out 4/18

Elliott

Here is my latest 7" transfer, Elliott- 'Will You'. It was released in 2000 before Elliott's best album, 'False Cathedrals.' It contains a Chameleons cover, 'Fan and the Bellows,' which is ok, but the best this 7" has to offer is the original, amazing version of 'Calvary Song.' It's pretty rough, but different than the final version which ended up on 'False Cathedrals. Elliott broke up a few years ago, but last fall Revelation Records released a superb live CD/DVD combo from them, 'Photorecording.' One of the best live albums I have heard. I zipped both songs together, here you go: Elliott- Will You

Poor Old Lu

The next song comes from my favorite band, Poor Old lu. They broke up in 1996 but did get back together for a short time in 2002 to release another cd. Pretty sure that will never happen again. Anyway, this song is called "Army Guy" it only appeared on 1994's "Sin" vinyl LP. It is my first attempt at creating an mp3 straight from my turntable; I think it sounds pretty good. About the song, it sounds absolutely nothing like any other song Poor Old Lu ever recorded. But if you are a fan, you will enjoy it. Poor Old Lu- Army Guy

Leigh Nash

I have begun recording my vinyl to mp3, but nothing to post yet. In the mean time, here is a .rar file containing nine Leigh Nash demos. She started posting them on her Myspace site last Fall, and has rotated which ones are up, usually four at a time. Some of them are great, others not so much. Her solo album will be released sometime in 2006. So here you go: Leigh Nash Demos

Fair

I am starting an MP3 blog as of today. My plan is to make MP3s out of a lot of the unreleased vinyl tracks that I have and post those. When I run out, I'll just post random, rare songs. If you have any requests, let me know! The first two songs are from the band Fair, both of which are streaming on their Myspace site. But if you want mp3s, here you go. They are Myspace rips, so possibly not the best quality, but I'll let you decide. Carelessness Pause Fair is the new band fronted by Aaron Sprinkle, formerly of Poor Old Lu and Rose Blossom Punch. Along with numerous solo albums, he has also produced Eisley, Demon Hunter, MxPx, and more.
